Tamera J. Buzick is a Native Nevadan who was raised in Carson City, Nevada, and studied education, mathematics and history at the University of Nevada, Reno. While teaching mathematics at Procter R. Hug High School, she spent school vacations working closely with Bowers Mansion Curator Betty Hood on her unending search for the truth behind the Bowers’ story. As the mansion’s historical researcher, Tamera traveled extensively searching for new facts. Excursions to Salt Lake City, Oakland, San Francisco, New York, and Scotland all uncovered new and previously unknown information. After retiring from Washoe County School District, she took on the role of mansion curator. A position that opened the story beyond the Bowers family and made way for the telling of the complete history of Bowers Mansion.

The presentation will cover the history of Bowers Mansion from the birth of Eilley Oram in 1826 through the 1960's restoration of the home she built in Washoe Valley. It will include her journey from Scotland to Salt Lake City and onto Washoe Valley. We will discuss her days as a boardinghouse keeper in Johntown to marrying Sandy Bowers and becoming a mining millionaire. The history of the mansion will include its time as a private home to the transformation into Bowers Mansion Resort and eventually becoming a Washoe County Park still enjoyed by thousands each summer.
